James Gunn Agrees Shazam is ‘The Original Captain Marvel’ #movienews

Zachary Levi isn’t technically wrong in referring to DC’s Shazam! as the original Captain Marvel, and James Gunn wants people to know that. Following Zack Snyder’s Justice League and James Wan’s Aquaman, the next DC Comics movie slated to enter production (as part of DC’s ongoing cinematic universe) is David F. Sandberg’s Shazam!, starring Levi as the eponymous character.

Warner Bros. confirmed Levi’s casting earlier this week, and the actor has been identifying his character as Captain Marvel ever since, which some regard as an insult to Marvel Entertainment considering that they have their own Captain Marvel (played by Brie Larsson in the MCU). Gunn – who’s most well-known ...

Peter Parker’s a Millennial In Spider-Man: Homecoming Honest Trailer #movienews

Spider-Man: Homecoming has become the newest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie to get the Honest Trailers treatment. The latest Spidey reboot was a big commercial success and won critics over with its brisk pace and sharp sense of humor, but it was as much a coming-of-age tale as it was a superhero movie. Placing Peter Parker deep into high school life allowed him to experience all the ups and downs of adolescence while simultaneously slinging webs and fighting crime in one tight two-hour package.

Homecoming added up to one of the MCU’s biggest successes, and a triumph for Sony Pictures as it teamed up with Marvel to reinvigorate the Spider-Man franchise. It stands as one of the most fun, thrilling installments in the entire mega-franchise, but that doesn’t mean it’s perfect. Even good Marvel movies are not safe from the biting wit of Screen Junkies’ Honest Trailers series, which ...

Marvel Studios and Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok changed certain scenes during reshoots, but thanks to photos from the film’s New York City set, we know of at least one deleted scene. Marvel is notorious for keeping the productions on its various projects as under wraps as possible and while many of the larger set pieces can be kept secret because they’re shot on sound stages, scenes shot out in the open – like on a busy New York City sidewalk – are harder to keep from leaking online. Certainly, Marvel fans have learned quite a lot from various set photos over the years, including getting glimpses at climactic moments or finding out that ...

Alternate Last Jedi Trailer Clears Up Luke & Kylo Ren Plot Point #movienews

An alternate edit of the recently released Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer potentially clears up a plot point regarding Luke Skywalker and Kylo Ren. Earlier this month, Lucasfilm set the internet ablaze with a new preview for Rian Johnson’s film, which provided more clues about where the story could be headed when the saga continues this December. One of the more intriguing bits in the footage was when Luke proclaimed his fears of Rey’s Force abilities, saying, “I’ve seen this raw strength only once before. It didn’t scare me enough then. It does now.” There has ...

Hasbro has unveiled a new range of Porg products to tie in with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and who could blame the iconic toy manufacturer? The film is still a month and a bit away from theaters and already the Porgs are a major talking point. It’s been impossible to avoid their influence as the Porgs have spread their tiny adorable wings all over pop culture.

These cutesy creatures are residents of Ahch-To and they have been keeping Luke Skywalker company during his self-imposed exile. As hype intensifies for Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII, fans have pored over Porgs, with facts about the little birds being hungrily devoured ...

The MCU’s Grandmaster & Collector Could Team-Up in the Future #movienews

Thor: Ragnarok‘s Grandmaster will team-up with his brother the Collector in a future film, if Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has his way. This past weekend, Ragnarok thundered past $100 million at the box office thanks to its early international opening. That number will climb substantially once the film releases domestically and in China this week, likely leading to the biggest film in the Thor franchise yet. Even better, the movie has been lauded by critics and fans alike. While much of that is due to the visuals and direction of Taika Waititi, it’s hard to deny the electric power of the film’s cast.

Ragnarok not only brings back ...

Guardians of the Galaxy Connections to Know Before Seeing Thor: Ragnarok #movienews

Guardians of the Galaxy Connections to Know Before Seeing Thor: Ragnarok #movienews

Before you watch Taika Waititi’s hotly anticipated Thor: Ragnarok, you might want to know how it connects up with the much-loved Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Prior to this film, Thor’s solo adventures mostly took place between Earth and Asgard, with the occasional sojourn to another of The Nine Realms (e.g. Jotunheim, the icy locale where Loki was born). The weirder depths of the Marvel cosmic universe have been reserved for James Gunn’s Guardians movies, up to now.

However, that’s all going to change with Ragnarok, which sees Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder stripped of his hammer, and his hair, before being dumped on the junkyard planet of Sakaar. As strange and surreal as anything in Guardians of the Galaxy, or its sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Sakaar is about as far removed as you can get from Thor’s home comforts ...

Blade Runner 2049 Hologram Fight Was Almost Cut #movienews

Blade Runner 2049‘s hologram fight sequence – where Deckard and K come to blows in an abandoned casino – came close to being cut, the film’s editor has revealed. Blade Runner 2049 had a lot to live up to, being the belated sequel to one of the most iconic science fiction films of all time. The sequel more than rose to the challenge though, feeling like a natural extension of the original movie while telling its own story.

Sadly, despite the strong reviews and levels of hype prior to release, the film wasn’t a success, so another sequel looks unlikely. Some blame the film’s performance on the marketing campaign, ...

Rob Liefeld Thinks Deadpool 2 Will Crush Han Solo Movie #movienews

Deadpool comic book creator Rob Liefeld has thrown down the gauntlet over the upcoming box office showdown between Deadpool 2 and Disney’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, claiming the Deadpool sequel will soundly defeat the young Han Solo film. Solo is set to hit theaters on May 25th, 2018 after a long and arduous production process that included the firing of original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller and the hiring of Ron Howard. Meanwhile, Deadpool 2 (which did go through a director change too, albeit well before production started) comes out the week after.

The original Deadpool may not have been a cross-platform phenomenon quite on ...

Thor: Ragnarok ‘Failed Miserably’ in Early Cuts #movienews

Thor: Ragnarok ‘Failed Miserably’ in Early Cuts #movienews

Despite the film’s current success, it sounds as if early cuts of Thor: Ragnarok didn’t quite work. It’s hardly surprising for Marvel Studios to land a critical and commercial hit these days. This year alone they’ve already had two such films thanks to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Few, however, would have suspected early on that Ragnarok would achieve similar heights.

Thanks to an overwhelming critical consensus, Thor: Ragnarok was Certified Fresh last week and sits as the MCU’s best-reviewed film. This past weekend also saw Ragnarok break $100 million at the international box office. With the movie debuting this week in domestic theaters, that strong start will more than double. In turns out, ...

Ron Howard Reshot ‘Nearly All’ Of Solo For ‘Twice The Budget’ #movienews

Ron Howard’s work on Solo: A Star Wars Story reportedly involved reshooting just about the entire film, which may have doubled the tentpole’s budget. Over the summer, Lucasfilm shocked the entertainment industry when they fired original Solo directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller (who were hired in 2015) after four months of filming due to creative differences. Shortly after, they hired Oscar-winner Howard to see the project across the finish line, and he’s been the man in charge ever since. Boarding the Millennium Falcon back in June, the director recently wrapped up production – with just seven months to go until Solo‘s theatrical ...

[Minor Spoilers for Thor: Ragnarok Ahead.]

Thor: Ragnarok is the start of the separation process for Hulk and Bruce Banner, according to Mark Ruffalo. While the aforementioned Marvel characters are played by a single actor, Marvel Studios has continued to explore their dynamic with one other, highlighting their complicated relationship. Although this will continue to be the case moving forward, the two will be slowly pulled apart – with Banner retaining his human mindset while the Hulk develops his own consciousness.

Ruffalo’s Hulk and Banner may never get a solo film (at least not in the foreseeable future), but the Marvel Cinematic Universe has thus far, been able to use Ruffalo’s on-screen character effectively in ensemble films ...

Kylo Ren and Leia Organa

Star Wars sequel trilogy actor Adam Driver has shared a piece of advice his onscreen mother, Carrie Fisher, shared with him as promotion for The Force Awakens revved up at San Diego Comic-Con 2015. Prior to joining the galaxy far, far away, Driver was best known for his role in the TV series Girls and smaller, dramatic films such as J. Edgar and Lincoln. Making the leap to massive tentpole fare was quite a change-of-pace for the actor’s career, especially considering Episode VII was perhaps the most anticipated movie of all-time. It seems to have paid off quite handsomely however, as Driver has earned raves for his performance as the emotionally-conflicted Kylo Ren, and considers ...

Burt Ward and Adam West as Dynamic Duo in 1966 Batman TV show

The world of Batman suffered a tragic loss with the passing of Adam West, but Adam’s longtime costar Burt Ward is teasing that fans may not have heard the last of the Bright Knight in the role of Bruce Wayne just yet.

Best known for playing Batman, West’s 51-year career as the Caped Crusader took him from the campy TV series to his own movie, and more recently, animated Batman features. While West went on to have other roles during his life, the role of Batman is one that always stayed with him. Bat-fans feared that the animated film Batman vs. Two-Face would be the last time that they could hear West voice the Caped Crusader, but Ward suggests that West may ...
