A trailer teaser for Pacific Rim Uprising has released ahead of the movie’s first official trailer debut tomorrow. Steven S. DeKnight’s (Daredevil, Spartacus) upcoming sequel takes place several years after the events of Guillermo del Toro’s original monster mash film, Pacific Rim, yet comes five years after the first movie hit theaters in 2013. It was originally supposed to helmed by del Toro himself, who also planned an animated series that would expound upon the franchise’s characters and history, as well as bridge the two films together.
Unfortunately, plans for the animated series ended up falling through when del Toro exited the sequel, and so DeKnight was brought onboard to continue the Jaeger vs Kaiju story – which now sees Star Wars lead John Boyega playing the main character, Jake Pentecost, the grown-up son of Idris Elba’s Stacker Pentecost from the first film.
