Ben Wheatley and Armie Hammer on the set of Free Fire

Free Fire and High-Rise director Ben Wheatley is currently working on a “big Marvel film,” according to popular British comedian Bob Mortimer. Wheatley has been a rising star in indie circles, garnering praise for his twisted sense of humor and talent for suspense, so it was perhaps only a matter of time before he landed a big-budget project.

Recent years have seen studios picking up buzzed-about indie directors left and right, with Colin Trevorrow hired for Jurassic World following his feature debut Safety Not Guaranteed, What We Do in the Shadows director Taika Waititi landing Thor: Ragnarok, and Jon Watts ...

Christopher McQuarrie Man of Steel 2

Mission: Impossible – Fallout director Christopher McQuarrie has reiterated that he’d be interested in directing Man of Steel 2 if someone extended the invite – especially if that person was Superman actor Henry Cavill. Cavill plays CIA agent August Walker in Fallout: a ruthless killer who faces off against the Mission: Impossible franchise’s fearless special ops agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise). Cavill also sports a mustache in that movie, a detail that – due to complicated filming schedules – led to Superman having a somewhat infamous CGI upper lip in Justice League.

John Woo & Lupita Nyong’o Team Up For The Killer Remake #movienews

Lupita Nyong’o will play the titular assassin in John Woo’s remake of his own Hong Kong action classic The Killer. In the late ’80s and early ’90s, no action filmmaker was more influential than Hong Kong auteur John Woo. Beginning with 1986’s A Better Tomorrow, Woo unleashed a string of acclaimed films featuring his signature hyper-stylized, balletic approach to violence (not to mention his fascination with doves and shots of people pointing guns at each other’s faces). It seemed everyone in Hollywood then began imitating Woo’s action scenes, though few could match his artful effect.

Woo arguably reached the pinnacle of his art with 1989’s The ...

In an exclusive deal with Netflix, Michael B. Jordan will soon reunite with Black Panther’s screenwriter for Failsafe, an adaptation of the Vault Comics series. If everything goes as planned, Jordan will not only produce the potential blockbuster, but also land the lead role as an insurgent hunter out for vengeance.

In contrast to popular franchises like Marvel Comics and DC Comics, Vault Comics is relatively new. Justice League director Zack Snyder wished star Gal Gadot a happy birthday with an image of a deleted scene from the movie. Turning 33 years old on Monday, Gadot has DC fans waiting patiently for her return in 2019’s Wonder Woman 2. And although Justice League turned out to be a critically polarizing film and a disappointment at the box office, it’s hardly because of Gadot, who in the wake of Wonder Woman has emerged as the DC cinematic universe’s brightest star.

Snyder, meanwhile, left Justice League before it was finished as he grieved with his family after the death of his daughter – but there’s also a

Infinity War Cast Wants to Know Where Ant-Man and The Wasp Were #movienews

Mild SPOILERS for Avengers: Infinity War.

A new video sees the cast of Avengers: Infinity War humorously wondering where Ant-Man and the Wasp were during the battle against Thanos. In the build-up to Infinity War, many fans were bothered by the lack of Hawkeye in the marketing for the movie. We were told Hawkeye has his own thing going on, implying that his mission would be spoiler-y if revealed. In the end, however, Hawkeye simply didn’t appear in the film – and he wasn’t the only one, either.

Valkyrie, Korg, Nakia, and several other recent additions to the MCU sat out Avengers: Infinity War, despite their proximity to the action. But along with Hawkeye, the most glaring absence was Ant-Man. The Wasp was never going to be part of the film, something we learned quite some time ago. But Ant-Man’s absence after his involvement in Captain America: Civil ...

Despite rumors to the contrary, Kevin Feige says the title for Avengers 4 will not be Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet. When Marvel announced back in 2014 that Avengers 3 and 4 would be titled Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 & 2, comic fans knew just what was in store for them. While Thanos and the Infinity Stones had barely been teased at that point, the subtitle of the films pointed towards an arc in the comics that saw the Mad Titan wipe out half of the universe before various heroes and villains had to unite to stop him. But the real start of that story was The Infinity Gauntlet.

This left the Earth at its most vulnerable. Little did they know that the biggest threat that will face was just lurking in the shadows – and now that Thanos is here, the MCU needs its best and brightest superheroes to save the day yet again.

The movie famously also botched the famous Phoenix Saga from the comic, reducing it to a subplot.

Star Wars: Han Solo’s Return of the Jedi Blaster to Sell at Auction #movienews

Han Solo in Return of the Jedi

The prop blaster used by Harrison Ford as Han Solo in Star Wars is headed for auction and may fetch a six-figure price. They may be “clumsy and random,” but blasters are the weapons of choice for the majority of non-Jedi characters in the Star Wars universe. And no character relied on his trusty blaster more than that roguish smuggler Han Solo.

The first time Solo wielded his blaster in Star Wars it was to blow away the bounty hunter Greedo in the Mos Eisley cantina, something that had become a strong point of contention due to all Special Edition changes George ...

Infinity War Cameo Kenneth Branagh Distress Call Infinity War Gives THOR Director an Asgardian Cameo?

WARNING: This article contains minor SPOILERS for Avengers: Infinity War

With Avengers: Infinity War making Thor a true powerhouse in the MCU, it’s only right that his first director should get a cameo to see it for himself. That’s right, it looks like Kenneth Branagh has landed a tiny role in the event film almost seven years after he directed Thor (2011). Well, actually… it sounds like Branagh has a cameo to catch.

Audiences will need to use their ears to spot Branagh, and not their eyes. That may be a bit more challenging for those already searching for every Infinity War Easter Egg, but it’s more than worth it. Because ...

Alita: Battle Angel Director Hints At Potential Sequels #movienews

Alita: Battle Angel director Robert Rodriguez has been discussing the development of the project – and how it could lead to multiple sequels. Alita: Battle Angel has been a pet project for producer James Cameron for nearly two decades, and he originally developed it for himself to direct. Just like Avatar, he sat on the concept for years until technology caught up with his vision, but he ultimately passed the movie onto Rodriguez when it became clear he’d be too busy on the upcoming Avatar sequels.

Alita: Battle Angel is based on the cult manga of the same name and takes place several centuries into the future. A cyborg named Alita ...

Alden Ehrenreich’s Solo Casting Was Inspired By Chris Pine #movienews

When casting the young Han for Solo: A Star Wars Story, original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller looked to pop culture’s other iconic sci-fi property for inspiration. It’s not an exaggeration to say Alden Ehrenreich is under a tremendous amount of pressure as he follows the footsteps of Harrison Ford as the iconic smuggler. For many viewers, his performance will make or break Solo, and fortunately it looks like the actor was up for the challenge. The footage released in trailers and TV spots showcases Han’s trademark bravado and swagger, and Ehrenreich seems to have excellent chemistry with Chewbacca.

The biggest challenge Ehrenreich faces is making the part ...

Dwayne Johnson’s Fighting with my Family Moves Back to 2019 #movienews

Dwayne Johnson’s wrestling drama Fighting With My Family has been pushed back from a release in fall 2018 to March 2019. Johnson’s 2018 slate just got a little smaller, but the megastar is certainly on a great run at the box office regardless of what happens from here. The former WWE star will portray himself in a supporting role in Fighting With My Family, which follows up video game adaptation Rampage and this summer’s action thriller Skyscraper.

Fighting With My Family, just the second feature film directed by actor Stephen Merchant (Logan) and based on the life and career of WWE star Saraya-Jade ...

Kevin Feige Not Sure the Marvel Cinematic Universe Will Truly End #movienews

Marvel Cinematic Universe 10th Anniversary poster

Kevin Feige doesn’t have an endgame in sight for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and hopes it will be generational. Since it began in 2008, the MCU has largely changed the way Hollywood operates. All studios are looking for cinematic universes of their own, but so far no one has matched what Marvel Studios has done. In ten years they’ve released nineteen movies and will debut the twentieth (Ant-Man and The Wasp) this summer. It is quite the accomplishment, considering the typically positive reviews and insanely high box office totals they tend to generate.

As the old saying goes though, all good things must come to an end. That is, unless it’s the MCU. They ...

Deadpool Interrupts Hugh Jackman’s Birthday Message #movienews

Logan Wolverine Hugh Jackman Deadpool Ryan Reynolds

Hugh Jackman just wants to record a heartfelt birthday message, but gets interrupted by a singing Deadpool in a hilarious Twitter video. The Merc with a Mouth returns this summer for Deadpool 2, the sequel to the 2016 blockbuster. This time around Deadpool is joined by his very own team The X-Force as he does battle with Cable, a heavily armed soldier from the future. The market for Deadpool‘s brand of comic book action and profane fourth-wall-breaking humor doesn’t seem to have dissipated as the sequel is tracking to be an even bigger hit than the original.

Long before he became such a box office phenomenon, Deadpool was just a humble second-tier X-Men character ...

Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot make up the intergalactic team, and the group has headlined two films now. They just became part of an even bigger story with Avengers: Infinity War now out in theaters, and while they will next appear in Avengers 4, the end of their trilogy isn’t too far away.

Guillermo del Toro’s Scary Stories Movie is Moving Forward #movienews

Guillermo del Toro is eager to traumatize a new generation of children by bringing Alvin Schwartz’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series to the big screen. Schwartz’s short story collections (published from 1981-91) are full of creepy yarns accompanied by even freakier black and white illustrations from Stephen Gammell. The books were the stuff of nightmares for children of the ’90s who grew up reading them, so it’s only natural that the director of Pan’s Labyrinth and The Shape of Water would want to turn them into a “movie for kids”.

A Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark movie has been in development for many years, but ...

Avengers: Infinity War Sets MCU Thursday Opening Record #movienews

Reports are in that Avengers: Infinity War has set a Thursday evening box office opening record for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The early projections suggest that the movie has earned $39 million in its first evening of wide release, far exceeding the previous record of $27.6 million, which was set by the second Avengers movie, Age of Ultron, three years ago.

This is welcome news to Marvel Studios, but not wholly unexpected. Perhaps the most eagerly anticipated movie of 2018, Infinity War sold out over 1,000 showtimes worldwide through advance ticket sales. Its $39 million Thursday evening opening is the fourth-largest Thursday premiere of all time, falling behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The ...

Marvel Studios is Simply Too Busy For One-Shots Now #movienews

Marvel Studios is too busy ramping up its movie production to make new One-Shots, according to Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito.

Back in 2011, Marvel Studios began to include some bonus content with their Blu-ray releases in the forms of One-Shots. The Thor Blu-ray included The Consultant, the first Marvel one-shot. It served as a bit of a continuity fix, explaining Tony Stark’s post-credits appearance in The Incredible Hulk. However, it also started a tradition; between 2011 and 2015, Marvel released five One-Shots in total. There hasn’t been one released since then, and not without reason either.

Speaking to EW, D’Esposito explained that ...
