Film adaptations of video games have never been the most prevalent genre, but it figures to only be a matter of time before the genre hits it big. This year is proof that despite past failures, studios continue to try and make this genre successful. Based on the popular MMO World of Warcraft, Warcraft was released earlier this year to not-so-favorable reviews and a lack of the high box office numbers needed. At the end of this year, Assassin’s Creed will try to be the saving grace of the genre, but will have its work cut out for it to break through a crowded few weeks.
As studios continue to adapt popular games like Tomb Raider with Alicia Vikander or The Division with Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain, fewer game titles will remain available. ...
