This Sunday is the 2017 Oscars ceremony, and the yearly discussions have begun. With no obvious winner this year, everyone has different theories about the big awards and who they will go to. And as there is every year, conversations about who got snubbed and what films or actors should have been nominated who weren’t can be found all over the internet. After two years of the #OscarsSoWhite controversy a number of African-American actors and actresses have been nominated, as well as East Indian actor Dev Patel. However, the fact that no female directors and only one female writer have been nominated has not escaped notice. There is no question, Oscar nominations can be controversial.
