Quentin Tarantino’s ninth directorial effort secured Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt as its stars, and is officially titled Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Shazam! Star Zachary Levi Teases Official Suit Reveal ‘At Some Point’ #movienews

Zachary Levi reacts to the leaked photos of him in costume for Shazam!, while teasing the upcoming official reveal. Warner Bros. has made a habit to epically unveil the first looks at several important characters in their DC universe. Whether that came in the single image of Ben Affleck under the cowl, the reveal of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, the entire Suicide Squad lineup, or even how Jason Momoa looked as Aquaman, the studio typically planned ahead. They had such a plan for Shazam! too, but that window has officially passed.

Wonder Woman 2: Kristen Wiig in Talks for Cheetah Villain Role #movienews

Warner Bros. may have found its Cheetah for Wonder Woman 2 as the studio is reportedly in talks with Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live) for the villainous role. After the soft launch of the DC Films’ franchise with Man of Steel, Warner Bros. kicked off their superhero shared universe in earnest with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, after the mixed responses to both Batman V Superman and the following series entry Suicide Squad, fans – and, no doubt, the studio – were hoping for an unequivocal success. That arrived in the summer of 2017 with Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman.

Writer/director Rick Famuyiwa is boarding the long developing movie adaptation of Charles Burns’ cult comic book series Black Hole, with New Regency and Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment producing. Famuyiwa was once attached to oversee Warner Bros. and DC’s upcoming Flash solo movie Flashpoint starring Ezra Miller, before he stepped down back in October of 2016. The filmmaker’s would-be DC superhero project is well in his rearview mirror by now, as he’s moved onto different ventures that include the pilot episode for Showtime’s TV drama The Chi (though that didn’t stop him from throwing some shade at Justice League on social media recently).

Jason at the bottom of a Crosby Minnesota Lake (screengrab: Curtis Lahr, YouTube)

Minnesota is known as “The Land of 10,000 Lakes,” and apparently Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th film series is at the bottom of one of them. Jason, of course, is one of modern horror’s most enduring icons, following the character’s smashing debut in the 1980 classic Friday the 13th. Since then, the demented serial killer from Camp Crystal Lake has slashed his way through eight subsequent Friday the 13th chapters (nine if you include Jason X), as well as the attempted reboot of the series with a 2009 film.

Apart from the films, the specter of Jason has also managed to creep into psyches of over-imaginative people pitching tents at campsites all over the world, leaving that last dreadful thought in their minds before they go to sleep whether they’ll be visited by a goalie mask-wearing, machete-wielding murderer in the overnight hours. If that isn’t enough, a genius ...

Filled with lovable characters and wild space adventures, they’ve also been used as Gunn’s love-letters to movies from decades before.

It wasn’t just major movies Gunn showed appreciation for, as he also sparked interest in music from the ’60s and ’70s. The loss of Peter Quill’s mom allowed for ...

Chris Hemsworth is in early talks to star in Sony’s Men in Black reboot/spinoff. Starting in 1997 with Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, Sony successfully found a new franchise to play with. Secret agents working to protect the planet from intergalactic threats gave Men in Black a great mixture of humor and action. The movie spawned two sequels, the latter of which came in 2012, but Men in Black 3 was not the franchise revival Sony was looking for.

Instead, the studio turned their attention to spinoffs to bring back the mysterious alien fighting group. The idea of crossing MIB over with 21 Jump Street fizzled quickly, and has since left ...

Two of the minds behind Black Panther—film director Ryan Coogler and comic writer Ta-Nehisi Coates—had a candid conversation about now was the right time for both of their works. Black Panther set a new February IMAX record and is currently dominating at the box office around the world as it heads towards its third weekend where it’ll soon top Avengers: Age of Ultron. With little in the way of competition, it’s set to add even more to its global haul (well past $700 million at this point). And within its own universe, Black Panther is the MCU’s third highest earner.

All of that success has once again led to ...

Bruce Willis Confirms Die Hard 6 is Still Moving Forward #movienews

Bruce Willis has confirmed the long-gestating Die Hard 6 is still happening. The original Die Hard is 30 years old this year and was breath of fresh air when first released. Movies in the 1980s had been dominated by indestructible muscle men like Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, but Die Hard instead featured a normal, everyman cop caught up in a siege and just struggling to stay alive.

Die Hard spawned four sequels, but with each follow-up, the everyman quality of John McClane got stripped further away. The character got caught up in increasingly outlandish situations, and by A Good Day To Die Hard he was hanging off helicopters and getting thrown through windows with barely a scratch to show for it. The next movie has been dubbed Die Hard: Year One, and is said to be a prequel/sequel, featuring modern-day McClane ...

Similarly, from Blade to the Fast & Furious franchise, films showcasing people of color in the lead bring more people (and money) to theaters. It’s for that reason theater owners have been demanding more diversity in movies for years, and Black Panther once again proves how effective they are.

The project is of course based on the Disney theme park attraction of the same name, famous for its old-school animatronic animals and pun-loving tour guides. Disney’s success with the Pirates of the Caribbean movies spurned the company to start developing more films based on its park rides, but their efforts have only given rise to Brad Bird’s expensive flop Tomorrowland in recent years (and even that movie had little to do with the actual Disney park land).

Justice League Fan Launches Snyder Cut Documentary Fundraiser #movienews

Justice League fan Roberto Mata, who launched the online petition calling for Warner Bros. to release Zack Snyder’s cut of the ensemble film, has started a fundraiser to produce a Snyder Cut documentary. The narrative surrounding the first ever live-action Justice League film is hardly what anybody expected (or wanted). Initially, Snyder envisioned it as the culmination of his own Superman trilogy, following Man of Steel and Batman V Superman. However, those works proved to be extremely divisive with critics and fans, which made the studio attempt a last-minute course correction to improve Justice League late in the game.

In May 2017, Snyder stepped down from Justice League, citing his daughter’s suicide as the reason (though ...

Social media will play a major role in the week-long campaign, which comes amid massive success and awareness for the MCU’s latest, Black Panther.

This is far from the first time anyone from the cast of Infinity War has done some good. Chris Evans, for instance, invited a bullied teen who went ...

Black Panther Becomes Third Highest-Grossing MCU Release #movienews

Black Panther is now the third-highest earner domestically for the MCU, sitting behind only The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. Marvel’s latest film is continuing to outperform expectations, much like Wonder Woman did last year. In fact, the success of Black Panther and Wonder Woman has theater owners asking for more diversity – and it’s not hard to see why. After a massive opening, Black Panther broke second-weekend records with $111 million domestically, besting The Avengers once again in the process.

Thanks to Black Panther‘s two big weekends, both at home and abroad, it’s fast on its way to the coveted $1 billion mark. Even during the week, the film has been setting new records and pulling in impressive numbers. ...

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker in The Fast and the Furious

Paramount is developing a documentary on the late Paul Walker, the star of The Fast and the Furious franchise, to be titled I Am Paul Walker.

Paul Walker is most well known for his role as Brian O’Connor in The Fast and the Furious, a Los Angeles cop who goes undercover investigating theft among drag racers in the first film. Later in the series, Brian leaves the police force to join the “family” alongside Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), Roman Pierce (Tyrese Gibson), Tej (Ludacris) and sometimes Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson). On November 30, 2013, Walker was killed in a car accident in Santa Clarita, California. He was the passenger in a Porsche Carrera GT when ...

Charlize Theron Jokes That She’s Too Old for James Bond #movienews

Charlize Theron is flattered by fans who think she’d make a great female James Bond – but she thinks she’s too old for the role. Theron has proven remarkably versatile as an actress, jumping from weighty dramas to silly comedies with ease. She received a whole new fanbase thanks to her work in Mad Max: Fury Road, where she played Furiosa. It was her character who drove the story forward, and she kicked as much ass – if not more – than Tom Hardy’s Max.

Theron also made an impression with 2017’s Atomic Blonde, where she played an MI6 agent in 1989 Berlin. The movie contained one ...

Shazam! Set Photo Offers First Look at Zachary Levi in Costume #movienews

A set photo from DC Films’ Shazam! reveals our first look at Zachary Levi in costume as the titular superhero. Warner Bros. has been building its DC Films shared universe in earnest since they debuted Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016. However, that film wasn’t well received by critics or fans and was followed by the even less well received Suicide Squad. Though it seemed the shared superhero universe was righting its ship with the critically and financially successful Wonder Woman, Justice League was another miss for the franchise.

That said, DC Films has a number of exciting projects on their upcoming slate, including James Wan’s ...

Alfie Director Lewis Gilbert Dies At 97 #movienews

British director Lewis Gilbert, the man behind the camera on over 40 films, has passed away just a couple of weeks shy of his 98th birthday according to THR. Gilbert was born March 6, 1920 in Hackney London. His parents were both music hall performers and Gilbert spent his childhood on the road with them while they toured, being hidden in the luggage racks of trains to save his parents buying him a ticket.

At the age of five Gilbert was tasked with driving a trick car on stage for one show, and audiences were so delighted that Gilbert and his car became the regular end of his parent’s act. Only two years later, when Gilbert was seven, his ...

Fox Plans to Release 3 X-Men Movies in Both 2019 & 2020 #movienews

As it turns out, after New Mutants rolls out in theaters early next year, 20th Century Fox is planning three more X-Men films in both 2019 and 2020. Since news broke that Disney was in active talks with Fox to buy their film and TV division, Marvel fans have been wondering how the two separate superhero franchises from Marvel Studios and Fox could come together. And while the deal still isn’t official, many expected that Fox will slowly decrease their Marvel output. But between the existing film slate and FX’s Legion‘s world-building, it’s as if it hasn’t sunk in yet that all their ...

First A Wrinkle In Time Reactions Are Very Mixed #movienews

Disney and Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time draws mixed reactions, following the movie’s premiere last night. In recent years, a certain ritual has taken place whenever a major film, especially one in the Disney stable, has its early premiere. Especially in the case of Star Wars and Marvel movies of the last three or four years, early reactions dribbling in on Twitter after the premiere are typically uniformly positive. Whether it’s the excitement of the premiere or some other factor, that’s usually been the case, with the more mixed reactions usually following sometime after that.

The latest big Disney film, A Wrinkle in Time, had its premiere Monday night (ahead of its theatrical release ...

New Mutants is Adding a New Character During Reshoots #movienews

New Mutants roster

As Josh Boone’s New Mutants heads for some reshoots, it sounds like the movie is undergoing something of an overhaul as it adds a brand new character.

In keeping with FOX’s darker world of X-Men movies, New Mutants promises to be a genre-defining superhero horror. Focusing on a younger team of mutants as they come to grips with their powers, the movie will be a loose adaptation of Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz’s ‘Demon Bear Saga’ from the ’80s. The current roster of character for New Mutants already includes Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, Charlie Heaton as Cannonball, and Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane. However, it sounds like we will find some new blood to come under the care of Dr. Cecilia Reyes.

Silver Surfer Movie Being Written By Brian K. Vaughn #movienews

Silver Surfer wears the Infinity Gauntlet

Among the “secret” Marvel projects being developed by Fox is a Silver Surfer solo movie that Runaways and Y: The Last Man comic book creator Brian K. Vaughn is writing. A film starring the metalloid space traveler is something that no less than Stan “The Man” Lee has expressed a desire to see, with Lee referring to Silver Surfer as “the most philosophical” of all the comic book characters that he’s worked on. Back in 2012, there were even rumors that Marvel Studios was trying to barter for the movie rights to the Surfer and his master Galactus, in exchange for the film rights to Daredevil.

Obviously, much has changed since ...
