Joaquin Phoenix is in talks to star in the Joker origin movie that The Hangover trilogy and War Dogs filmmaker Todd Phillips is directing, in addition to cowriting. The film will reportedly take place outside of the DC Films continuity (colloquially known as the DC Extended Universe), where Jared Leto plays the Clown Prince of Crime in the Suicide Squad movies.
