Dwayne Johnson’s Rampage emerged as the victor this weekend at the box office, narrowly topping A Quiet Place. The film is the latest in a long line of video game adaptations, a genre Hollywood has historically struggled with. Johnson himself is no stranger to the infamous video game curse, having headlined the critically-panned commercial flop Doom back in 2005. The Rock, who is one of this generation’s most bankable stars, went on record to say the lessons from Doom would make Rampage a stronger movie, and he seems to have been right.
