At least part of the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes from the synergy between its various franchises. While audiences didn’t have to watch Ant-Man to enjoy Captain America: Civil War, it sure did help to know why Paul Rudd’s charming size-shifter was on The Falcon’s radar. The knowledge that any Marvel Studios film might feature a meaningful, in-canon cameo from any other hero provides that extra bit of nerdy incentive to keep up with every hero’s journey.
