Blumhouse Productions will reunite Stir of Echoes collaborators Kevin Bacon and David Koepp for the horror-thriller You Should Have Left. German author Daniel Kehlmann wrote the original novel, adapted by Koepp who also directs.
Kehlmann’s first-person novel has a distinct Stephen King flavor, with its story about a screenwriter secluding himself along with his family and slowly going mad. King himself explored similar territory in his classic novel The Shining, and to a lesser extent in his later unraveling writer stories The Dark Half and Secret Window. All three books would become films. As it happens, David Koepp himself directed the Johnny Depp-led adaptation of Secret Window.
