In 1983, Nicolas Cage got his first leading role in the movie Valley Girl. He played a punk who falls in love with a popular rich valley girl. The girl, Julie, struggles with her friends expectations as she tries to decide between the stuck up Tommy and Cage’s Randy. The comedy — loosely based on Romeo and Juliet — was made for only $350,000 and had a successful box office run, earning more than 50 times its budget.
