Nintendo and Illumination Officially Partnering for Super Mario Animated Movie #movienews

Mario is heading back to the big screen with Nintendo and Illumination officially announcing plans for a Super Mario animated film. Video games have had little luck making it to the big screen, and it all began with a live-action attempt to bring Nintendo’s beloved plumber/adventurer to the big screen. The 1993 Super Mario Bros. movie kicked off the so-called video game movie curse and has seen one of gaming’s tentpole brands previously steer clear from future movie endeavors.

This video game curse has not stopped other studios from attempting to break it, but so far there hasn’t been a film that truly stands out as a great example. All ...

An angry group of DC fans plan to sabotage Black Panther‘s Rotten Tomatoes audience score in an effort to diminish the film’s success. After years of waiting, the age of better representation in superhero movies is finally here. Wonder Woman had a massive societal impact for what it did for women across the world last year. Now, Marvel Studios is in the final stages of promoting a film that could be just as impactful for the African-American population, Black Panther.

The film has been highly praised for the representation factor, but also has had stellar marketing in the lead up to its debut. Everything ...

Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper, The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons has been cast in a pivotal role opposite Zac Efron’s Ted Bundy in the true-life crime thriller Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. Efron shocked fans in May when word surfaced he was going to play Bundy, one of the most notorious serial killers in U.S. history, whose crimes involving dozens of women in the 1970s included murder, rape and necrophilia.

In a business where image is everything, Efron’s move appeared to be a bold one, considering that the bulk of his work in film and television has been lighter fare. After he rose to prominence in the High School Musical films for ...

Heath Ledger was looking forward to playing the Joker in another Batman movie following his performance in The Dark Knight. The actor’s casting as the Crown Prince of Crime was widely criticized at the time it happened, but he ultimately went down as one of the greatest cinematic antagonists of all-time. Ledger’s iconic turn broke new ground for the film industry as a whole, netting him a posthumous Best Supporting Actor Oscar and setting a new bar for movie villains. Michael B. Jordan used Ledger as a source of inspiration for Kilmonger in Black Panther, for instance.

A new report suggests the first trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story will debut during the Super Bowl this weekend, despite previous reports to the contrary. When Lucasfilm booted directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller from the project last summer, it was believed that the studio would delay the movie to December (it’s the only Star Wars movie releasing in May, not December), but they didn’t. Instead, they quickly hired Ron Howard, who shepherded the film through the rest of production.

The Han Solo origin film was officially titled Solo: A Star Wars Story in October (when Solo‘s production wrapped), and it was believed that ...

Fake Star Wars 9 Crawl Pokes Fun at The Last Jedi Complaints #movienews

A fan-made opening crawl for Star Wars: Episode IX erases most of the controversial moments from Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi. Rian Johnson’s 2017 sequel to J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens was met with widespread critical acclaim. And while it’s gone on to achieve box office success, it’s not as extensively beloved as the statistics would have people believe. The Last Jedi has its fair share of detractors, many of whom disagreed with Johnson’s decisions with the film’s twists and turns.

Aside from story objections, Star Wars fans’ chief complaints about The Last Jedi primarily centered on Johnson’s character choices. For instance, Rey’s lack of belonging played an integral role in The Force Awakens, and her intention in uncovering the truth about who she is became the impetus for her story in The ...

Blade - Wesley Snipes - WWE Studios

The subject of future Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry Dumbledore’s sexuality was first raised by author J.K. Rowling in a 2007 appearance at Carnegie Hall. Rowling stunned fans with two bombshell revelations. The 2014 sequel moved from the original’s home-invasion concept to a larger, expanded scope that opened the possibility for more action. Then, 2016’s The Purge: Election Year took the series’s usual violent action into political-motivated metaphor. Given the last film’s bloody-bashing of America’s future, the prequel’s teaser-poster is likely to get laughs for its bold ...

Transformers: The Last Knight is the worst, or best, movie to finish up the viewer-voted Screen Junkies Honest Trailers of 2017, and it’s now even clearer than before that Michael Bay is bored of Transformers movies.

Ant-Man and The Wasp Director Confirms Trailer Music Easter Egg #movienews

The first teaser for Ant-Man & the Wasp had a musical Easter egg hidden in it according to director Peyton Reed. In all the excitement over Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, it can be easy to forget that Ant-Man 2 will arrive this July in theaters. And though the Internet is ablaze with the first Black Panther social media reactions following last night’s premiere, Marvel figured now was as good a time as any to promote this summer’s pint-pized sequel.

This morning saw the release of the first Ant-Man & the Wasp trailer, teasing the arrival of Hope van Dyne as the MCU’s newest hero. ...

Avengers Infinity War Poster Black Panther

Marvel Studios’ Black Panther held its world premiere and attendees have confirmed how many post-credits scenes the Marvel Cinematic Universe installment includes. Marvel Studios is celebrating 10 years of the MCU in 2018, with the year marking a decade since Iron Man premiered in 2008 and officially kicked off the sprawling superhero franchise. One key way Iron Man launched the MCU was with the use of a post-credits scene, which featured Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury approaching Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) about the Avengers Initiative. Ever since, post-credits scenes have been a major part of MCU worldbuilding and often work as teasers for upcoming films.

Kicking off their 10th anniversary year, Marvel ...

Disney’s Jungle Cruise Casts Emily Blunt, Gets Rewrite By Logan Writer #movienews

Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson and Jungle Cruise

Emily Blunt is joining Dwayne Johnson in the cast for Disney’s live-action Jungle Cruise movie, itself based on the popular Adventureland theme park attraction of the same name. Screen Rant learned that Disney was considering Blunt for Jungle Cruise only yesterday, but it’s now being reported that the Edge of Tomorrow star has closed a deal to appear in the film opposite ‘The Rock’. Johnson is starring in the movie as a 1920s riverboat captain who goes on a wild adventure across the world, after he teams up with a scientist (Blunt) in search of a magical cure.

The Johnson/Blunt pairing is a far ...

Solo: The Kessel Run May Be Less Impressive Than You Think #movienews

Solo: The Kessel Run May Be Less Impressive Than You Think #movienews

In classic Han Solo fashion, his great accomplishment of completing the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs may be completely fabricated. During his introductory scene in A New Hope, the Millennium Falcon captain made the now-famous boast to Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi in an attempt to illustrate how fast his ship is. Since that time, we’ve seen the Falcon pull off some astonishing feats (navigating an asteroid field, flying through a mine on Crait), but the Kessel Run has largely remained a mystery in franchise canon. The upcoming film Solo: A Star Wars Story looks to change that, however.

Though audiences still have seen virtually ...

Halloween (2018): Jamie Lee Curtis Marks First Day of Filming #movienews

Halloween (2018) has officially started filming, as star Jamie Lee Curtis via a photo taken from the set of the Blumhouse-produced horror sequel/reboot.

The Halloween franchise kind of went of the rails for awhile there. Just try to find a marathon that doesn’t completely skip over Season of the Witch as if it never existed. One thankfully abandoned Halloween 6 script even took the Ouija board into the 21st century and had Michael Myers living on the streets. The 2018 Halloween is throwing out all the reboots and sequels that have debuted over the years, choosing only to view the original Halloween movie as actual canon. Halloween (2018) is also getting back to basics, by bringing back everything fans have always loved ...

Marvel’s Ant-Man and The Wasp Poster: Pint-Sized Superheroes Unite #movienews

Prepare for some supersized trouble in a brand new poster for Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, hiding Evangeline Lilly and Paul Rudd in plain sight.

As a follow up to Peyton Reed’s first movie, Ant-Man and The Wasp once again recruits Rudd’s troublemaking Scott Lang as the tiny hero Ant-Man. Also back for more are Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym. Lang was last seen in a sticky situation thanks to the events of Captain America: Civil War, but now that he has been busted out of prison, the tiny terror is ready for action in his second Marvel Cinematic Universe ...

Crank Director Wants To Start A New Cinematic Universe #movienews

Crank Director Wants To Start A New Cinematic Universe #movienews

Jason Statham as Chev Chelios in Crank

Crank co-director Brian Taylor would love the series to spawn a cinematic universe of its own. The original Crank was a hyperactive, video game-style action movie where Jason Statham played a poisoned assassin who is forced to keep his adrenaline pumping to stay alive. The movie’s mix of action and wacky humor helped make it a surprise hit, and cemented Statham as an action star.

Crank 2: High Voltage picked up shortly after the original, where Statham’s character is fitted with an electronic heart and must shock himself constantly to keep it charged. The movie one-upped the insanity of the original, but despite becoming a cult movie in the years ...

Goosebumps 2 May Feature All New Characters & Cast #movienews

Goosebumps 2, which is tentatively known as Goosebumps: Slappy’s Revenge, reportedly revolves around a brand new group of human characters and may not even bring back Jack Black as the real life creator of the Goosebumps franchise, R.L. Stine. Once upon a time, the Goosebumps movie sequel was scheduled to hit theaters this month (last Friday, to be exact) and would have been titled Goosebumps: HorrorLand, based after the Goosebumps HorrorLand spinoff book series that Stine published in the late 2000s. Obviously that didn’t happen, and it’s been a waiting game to find out what shape the sequel will take and when it will arrive, ever since.

The first Goosebumps movie grossed ...

Avengers: Infinity War Trailer Impressed Tom Hiddleston #movienews

Tom Hiddleston reveals what he thought of the Avengers: Infinity War trailer, saying he was awestruck by the footage that was released to the public a couple months back. Reprising the Marvel villain for the fifth time in the upcoming Joe and Anthony Russo project, the 36-year-old star is set to join countless actors who are part of the massive Marvel Cinematic Universe as the culmination of everything that has transpired in the franchise finally starts.

Black Panther’s Dora Milaje Take Down Some Goons In New Clip #movienews

A newly revealed Black Panther clip gives us our best look yet at Wakanda’s elite special forces unit, the Dora Milaje, in action. This is the second full-length clip Marvel has released, with the first featuring a car chase that focused in on T’Challa, his younger sister Shuri, and some of the wild new abilities the Panther Habit sports in the film. Black Panther won’t be the only powerful fighter in the movie, of course.

In the comics, the Dora Milaje were female warriors who not only functioned as Wakandan Black Ops and the Black Panther’s personal bodyguard, but also served as wives-in-training for the king. Thankfully, the big screen adaptation will be dropping that creepy bit at the end, choosing instead to focus on their badass fighting skills.

Margot Robbie, Russell Crowe, & More Appear In Full-Length Dundee Trailer #movienews

A full-length trailer for Danny McBride’s Crocodile Dundee sequel Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home has arrived, and it features appearances from several famous actors, including Margot Robbie and Russell Crowe. It’s been a little over a week since we first got wind of the supposed follow-up to Paul Hogan’s old film series via a teaser trailer. That confusing first glimpse featured McBride delivering a pretty cringeworthy rendition of the original film’s infamous “That’s not a knife” quote. The teaser prompted a ton of questions, ranging from “how are we just hearing about this?” to “so is this supposed to be a comedy or…?”

The headscratching continued with the release of subsequent movie footage, which confirmed the involvement of major Hollywood stars like Chris Hemsworth and Hugh Jackman. The increased star power in those clips hasn’t managed to drum up much in the way of laughs, but thankfully, a recent scoop from ...

Sam Raimi to Direct Kingkiller Chronicle Adaptation #movienews

Sam Raimi is in talks with Lionsgate to direct the upcoming adaptation of Pat Rothfuss’ New York Times bestseller The Kingkiller ChronicleBased on the popular fantasy series about a wandering adventurer named Kvothe whose tragic upbringing leads him to notoriety, Raimi will helm the first film in the planned trilogy, titled The Name of the Wind. However, it’s unclear whether or not Raimi will maintain involvement throughout all three films in the trilogy.

Lionsgate is taking a bold and innovative direction with this adaptation, releasing the films concurrently with a Kingkiller Chronicles television series on Showtime, as well as an interactive game. Since Rothfuss’ series is written in both novel and novella formats, this unconventional structure will tie into the novel’s ...

Exclusive: Disney Wants Emily Blunt For Jungle Cruise #movienews

Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson and Jungle Cruise

Disney is interested in casting Emily Blunt as the female lead in their Jungle Cruise movie opposite Dwayne Johnson. Following in the footsteps of the Pirates of the Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise is set to be the next tentpole based on a Disney Theme Park property, in this case the near-ubiquitous Adventureland attraction that takes patrons on a globe-trotting journey down several major rivers.

The company has been trying to spin Jungle Cruise into a film franchise for well over a decade, with one version spluttering in the wake of Pirates‘ breakout success and another attaching Toy Story’s Tom Hanks and Tim Allen as leads before ...

Marvel’s True Believers Comics Suggest Carol Danvers Will Be In Infinity War #movienews

Marvel’s latest “True Believers” one-shots seem to suggest Captain Marvel will appear in Avengers: Infinity War.

This year marks the 10-year anniversary of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Comics, for their part, clearly believe their best sales strategy is to capitalize on the movies. This year is already seeing the comic book publisher launch events related to the Phoenix Force, the Black Order, and the Infinity Gems. It’s a fairly predictable strategy, given 2017 was a rough year for Marvel Comics.

Recent years have seen Marvel run an initiative known as the “True Believers.” These are $1 reprints, used by Marvel to market characters and concepts ...
