Baywatch is set to surf into theaters a day earlier than expected, in an effort to catch a larger share of the Memorial Day weekend audience. Paramount are currently licking their wounds after the box office failure of Ghost in the Shell. The controversial movie, starring Scarlett Johansson, is set to cost the studio $60 million after claims of whitewashing and poor reviews harmed the movie’s chances of doing well.
Their fortunes could be reversed, though, with the release of Baywatch. The big-screen reboot of the popular ’90s TV show stars Dwayne Johnson as Mitch Buchannon, and Zac Efron as the hot, new, young lifeguard on the scene, Matt Brody.
