Legendary Comics has unveiled a new trailer and cover art for its upcoming MonsterVerse comic book series Skull Island: Birth of Kong, inspired by Warner Bros/Legendary Picture’s Kong: Skull Island. Thanks to director Gareth Edwards’ successful reboot of Godzilla in 2014, the studio was able to proceed with confidence making the 1970s era King Kong tale, which quickly became a sizable hit in its opening weekend last month and cruised past the $500 million mark at the global box office this week.
Fans who stuck around for the Kong: Skull Island post-credits scene officially got the news they were looking for, when Monarch scientists revealed to Kong explorers James Conrad (Tom Hiddleston) and Mason Weaver (Brie Larson) the existence of Godzilla and other legendary creatures; thus officially cementing the future chapter in Warner Bros. and Legendary’s long-anticipated MonsterVerse.
