Sharknado 5 looms ever closer, as SyFy and NBCUniversal confirm a late summer premiere date for the next installment in the camp-horror franchise. Fans of the original Sharknado TV movie – which saw its debut only a few years ago in 2013 – was an immediate success with casual viewers and launched director Anthony C. Ferrante into the limelight of bad movie superstardom. Bearing an ethos and production value comparable to such contemporary B-movie disasterpieces as Troll 2 and The Room, Ferrante and company soon drew plenty of eyes to a whole slew of original SyFy productions.
