Superhero films have previously been period pieces, female-led, and female-directed, but all of those qualities are incredibly uncommon to the genre. Because of this, Wonder Woman looks to be a unique experience in at least a few areas. Framed as a flashback within the DC Extended Universe, the film is set to focus on the superheroine’s adventures defending humanity during the first World War. Despite a couple of exciting trailers featuring the broad beats of Wonder Woman’s journey, the film’s plot is still a mystery. Little is known about the real villain of the story, or what Diana hopes to achieve by getting involved in the conflicts of humankind.
