Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy recently mentioned that the studio is contemplating a future for Star Wars that did not include a continuation of the Skywalker family saga past 2019’s Star Wars: Episode IX and consisted exclusively of anthology films. Obviously, this places a great deal of pressure on the first spinoff, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Luckily, the movie is expected to do quite well at the box office, with the first opening weekend projections estimated at $130+ million. That isn’t in the same ballpark as The Force Awakens‘ record-breaking debut last year, but few projects could ever reach that level.
