The fast-approaching Doctor Strange is not only the first solo character movie in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe; the film is also the first to feature proper magic (not “super-advanced alien technology” or “miracles”) and will explore the mystical side of the MCU as no film or TV show before it has. Whereas Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 has now both opened the door to the supernatural in the MCU and become the first addition to Marvel’s larger shared universe to incorporate supernatural horror elements (with the debut of Ghost Rider), Doctor Strange aims to kick open that door in full; revealing that beyond the borders of our reality, there be monsters and demons.
