The original’s legacy as an Old West-style remake of acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 masterpiece Seven Samurai – in addition to its inclusion in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress – has assured it a position of high visibility in the cultural consciousness – quite a lot to live up to.
