Despicable Me 3 looks set to take the box office crown this 4th of July weekend. The third entry in the Steve Carell-starring franchise focusing on a reformed supervillain and his diminutive henchmen, the Minions, is looking likely to open in the $85-95 million range for the weekend, buoyed by continued passion for the franchise and solid reviews for the latest entry. That’s a strong number for a threequel, and a box office win Universal is in desperate need of following the recent failure of The Mummy.
