Back in 2012, it seemed a sequel to Man of Steel was practically a given. The film performed admirably at the box office, received a mostly positive response (even amidst a few critical points of dissension), and promised that the next movie would feature a Superman allowed the chance to be Superman.
However, at Comic-Con in 2013, Warner Bros. announced Batman V Superman – a direct follow-up to Man of Steel, sure, but not one interested in exploring just the next chapter in Superman’s journey. Instead, Batman and Wonder Woman were injected, setting the stage for their forthcoming feature films, as well as cameos for Aquaman, The Flash, and Cyborg to tease their proper introductions into the DC Extended Universe. That film and the currently in production Justice League aren’t true sequels to Man of Steel, but fans shouldn’t lose hope of there ever being one.
