In 2002, Screen Gems released an action horror film that was loosely based on Capcom’s Resident Evil video games. Despite mainstream critical hatred (literally; it made Roger Ebert’s list of most hated films), the Milla Jovovich-led flick went on to gross $102.4 million, nearly three times the film’s budget. The film series follows Alice (Jovovich), who turns against her former employer, the Umbrella Corporation, after they trigger a zombie apocalypse. The success of the first film created an entire franchise, which, fourteen years later, is about to conclude with its sixth film, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.
