In an overwhelmingly divisive year, there may have been no issue more reflective of this amongst fans than the response to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. One of the complaints against the film was that the two heroes’ motivations for fighting (and for resolving their fight) wasn’t fleshed out in the most reasonable method. Nonetheless, it makes perfect sense that the two would rub each other the wrong way. The Man of Steel’s often sunshiny and casually overpowered acts of heroism are a far cry from the moody, self-disciplined intensity of Batman’s war on crime. With polar opposite attitudes and approaches, it’s a wonder they ever got along well enough to form the Justice League.
