Just as each generation has its own teens, each generation also has its own hit teen comedies. The 1980s had John Hughes efforts like Sixteen Candles, the 1990s embraced raunchy fare like American Pie, and for those who came of age in the 2000s, few teen comedies are as revered as 2004’s Mean Girls. Partially based on Rosalind Wiseman’s non-fction book Queen Bees and Wannabes, Mean Girls effectively launched the careers of future big names like Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried, and Lizzy Caplan, and seemed to cement star Lindsay Lohan’s status as an A-lister of the future.
