After a tepid response to Transformers: Age of Extinction – the fourth film in Paramount’s franchise and the first without Shia LaBeouf’s Sam Witwicky leading the charge – the studio and filmmakers took a step back and attempted a different approach to launching a Transformers cinematic universe. Paramount established a writer’s room for the movie series, led by Oscar-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, which led to story ideas not only for Transformers: The Last Knight, but a handful of spinoffs including one following fan-favorite Autobot Bumblebee.
