When it was first announced that 20th Century Fox intended to revive the Planet of the Apes franchise in a prequel movie starring James Franco as a biochemist opposite a motion-capture ape, fans were not optimistic. In fact, most viewers assumed that Rise of the Planet of the Apes was an easy pick to join the ever-growing list of failed franchised revivals and reboots.
