Joss Whedon’s The Avengers set a high for standard for Marvel’s ensemble movies, pitting a cohort of heroes led by Iron Man and Captain America against the meddlesome Loki. It also introduced the overarching villain, Thanos, who has been portrayed by Josh Brolin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films released post-Avengers. His search for the fabled Infinity Stones has affected each successive phase in the MCU since then, as they have appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor: The Dark World, Guardians of the Galaxy, and as recently as the Benedict Cumberbatch-led, Doctor Strange.
