Although Hollywood has seen young adult adaptations come and go, with some – like The Hunger Games and Twilight – seeing more success than others, the most massively successful is Warner Bros’ Harry Potter franchise. Based on the series of seven novels written by J.K. Rowling that kicked off with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in 1997, the film franchise adapted the story of Harry and his friends to the big screen over the course of eight movies. The final Harry Potter novel hit shelves in 2007, with the last movie a few years later in 2011.
