It turns out one of the post-credits scenes in Spider-Man: Homecoming was a last-minute addition. Marvel Studios has popularized the use of mid- and post-credit scenes with their films. Fans now not only expect them in Marvel movies, but similar genre films as well. The first phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe had subtle allusions to the films taking place in the same universe, but the post credits were very overt about what to expect next in the MCU.
